We made it through 2020!

Well, we made it, we got through 2020 and what a year that was for us at Little Door Books. We were thrilled to start it off with a shortlist for the Nibbies Small Press of the Year award in the Scottish region and with plans for one of our strongest year’s list of titles yet, we were raring to go.

With director Alan being the only full-time member of LDB and one of our award-winning authors, he was invited to take part in the Scottish Book Trust’s Scottish Friendly Book Tour. Alan toured throughout Northern England with the team and was able to use the tour to help raise the profile of LDB, its authors and illustrators, and promote his 2020 sequel to the award-winning picture book One Button Benny.

Our other highlight publications were the sequel to Vivian French’s best-selling Billy Hippo picture book and three fantastic debuts. A key element of our long-term strategy for Little Door Books

continues to be to raise the public and industry awareness of the wonderfully talented unsung illustrators out there. In early 2019 we set up a new imprint, Little Door Debuts, where LDB actively champions and publishes debut picture books by exciting, new, creative, illustrating talent. After the successful publication of our first LDD, Will Hughes in 2019 we were keen to follow this up in 2020. Through a successful funding award from Creative Scotland, we were able to publish two Little Door Debut titles by unknown illustrators. The funding also enabled us to upgrade our computer system and buy some music and video software which was to prove invaluable for what was to come.
